Description:
Small sized, slim-bodied, long-necked and long-legged plover. Has golden-yellow markings on upperparts, and dusky grey underwing-coverts and axillaries. In flight, shows narrower white wing-bar and dark rump. Non-breeding usually shows prominent pale supercilium and dark patch at rear of ear-coverts.
Distribution:
Vagrant during passage migration in Gilgit-Baltistan, with no latest records. Mostly prefers sparsely vegetated mud flats or sandy banks of wetlands, lakes, streams and also grasslands. In the areas occurs up to 3000m.
Behavior:
Feeds in typical plover style; also gleans and probes in mud, sand and pastures. Feeds alone or in flocks. Some wintering birds occupy territories for entire season, returning each year. Mainly feeds on insects, molluscs, worms, crustaceans and spiders; berries particularly important on tundra; occasionally seeds and leaves, and exceptionally small vertebrates.
